A proposed law on sexually transmitted diseases in 1977 prompts a group of friends to establish AKOE (the Greek Homosexual Liberation Movement). Together with its magazine, AMFI, the organization soon becomes a vital hub for meeting, organizing, sharing information, and building solidarity within Greece’s then largely underground LGBTQI+ community, as it confronts state repression, social exclusion, and the AIDS epidemic.
