A proposed law on sexually transmitted diseases in 1977 prompts a group of friends to establish AKOE (the Greek Homosexual Liberation Movement). The organization, together with its magazine AMFI, soon becomes a vital hub for meeting, organizing, sharing information, and building solidarity within Greece’s then largely invisible and unorganized LGBTQI+ community, as it confronts state repression, social exclusion, and the AIDS epidemic. Through the testimonies of the generation that built it, Iosif Vardakis’s documentary traces the birth and early years of the LGBTQI+ movement in Greece.
