Discovering Hadrian’s Aqueduct

Discovering Hadrian’s Aqueduct

How can students connect to the history, culture, and physical environment of their neighborhood through a common good that flows beneath their feet? Ohi Pezoume/UrbanDigProject will design and conduct a series of educational workshops and a large-scale urban game for students in the high schools around the underground aqueduct in Athens originally built on the orders of Roman Emperor Hadrian. Through these activities students will learn the history and contemporary significance of the aqueduct, explore the impact of a changing climate on the city’s water resources, and develop strategies for becoming active citizens and turning urban space into a site of experimentation and discovery.
