The Book Club: Book Sharing in the Small Cyclades

The Book Club: Book Sharing in the Small Cyclades

  • By: Artemis Chaleplioglou

Inhabitants of the cluster of islands known as the Small Cyclades face substantial geographical and infrastructural challenges when it comes to accessing cultural resources such as books. With the Book Club project, Artemis Chaleplioglou (Professor of Library Science, University of West Attica) will develop a book-sharing system with robust library organization across four islands—Ano Koufonisi, Donousa, Schinoussa, and Iraklia—using open-source software. Individuals and organizations will be able to catalog their books in an online database where others can search for books and contact their owners to borrow them. Through this collectively built resource, the Book Club will address a long-standing need of the islands’ inhabitants and create opportunities for new connections and community.
